Tarsila do Amaral

Tarsila was an important Brazilian modernist artist. She exalted in her work the country's fauna and flora, portraying them exuberantly. Inspired in the cubism influence she created very striking images of extreme beauty. Together with her husband, the poet Oswald de Andrade they created the Anthropophagic movement, which aim was to value Brazilian culture at a time when the European influence was predominant. They made sure that Brazilian art had its own face, features and caracheristics. Here are some samples from this phase of Tarsila's work:
